How long would you expect brake pads to last?
36k km on the clock and was told the brake pads were 90% gone and needed replacing at a service recently?
Would have thought they would have lasted a good bit more.

youd be doing well for brake pads to last 36k km!!! i would of thought they have been changed before now

I'd say 36k km isn't crazy mileage for brake pads to last! Thats around 3 services.

It's completely set on how you drive though, you may get more you may get less.

25,000 miles on my brake pads and they look great still!

Its soo variable. Are ya mainly city, country, or dual carriageway/motorway

Are ya a aggressive or slow driver.

Some cars are heavier on pads too. Herselfs old avensis was hard on pads.

Depends how to drive, if you do a lot of city driving they'll wear quicker than if you were doing a lot of motor way miles but that seems about right.

36k is not uncommon it all depends on the type of driving your doing. Lots of motorways and country roads you would get more miles vs a lot of city driving where your braking for lots of traffic lights.

Pads are not expensive but if you dont trust your mechanic get another garage to check them.

Edit: in the time it took me to type this there been a few posts with same answer.

There is no fixed time or mileage interval on how long brake pads can last, it is all down to the driver and how hard they are on braking. Constant heavy braking will wear pads a lot quicker than someone who uses more engine braking to slow down the car. It also depends on the quality of brake pads fitted too to a lesser extent.

Check that the pads have worn evenly some calipers have a habit of wearing the inner more than the outer if they don't slide properly.
A lot of VW's are bad for this.
