Everyone says, we all take after one parent, either our mother or father but at what age did you 'turn into' your mum or dad? Did you find yourself saying things like they did, or dressing like them or listening to the obituaries :D on the radio?

When I was in Europe with friends a few years ago, and the **** hit the fan with one of them ending up in hospital. I remember standing in a police station, explaining the situation to a hopeless Hungarian cop when it occured to me that I had seen my father do the very same thing when we were pick pocketed in Rome a long time ago, sun burnt with his cool shades, shorts and Michael Palin-esque sweaty shirt, and three kids hanging out of him.

I have to say I felt grown up at that moment.

I'm actually pleased to be slowly turning into my mother - well, the version of her who gets to live in more liberated times. She is brilliant. :)

What's scary for me is my husband gets a bit more like my Dad every day. He uses a lot of my Dad's sayings and catchphrases too (we do spend a bit of time with my parents). He even got a new job recently that's just like my Dad's job with the same job title.

    Creepy :D

Due to an accident with a time machine and a rather fine looking auld lady I actually am my own father so I've always been him.

And I didn't technically ride my mother because I hadn't been born yet.

I realised it in my late 20's, I just happened to look out the window of the house to see a local kid place a ball down on the and smash the ball into the back of my car. He was hauled up to his parents house and his mother got a earful. She did not seem that interested until I mentioned damage and repair bill. But it was half way through that incident that i realised I'd become my dad. :)

But my dad is awesome so I'm cool with that.

Apparently I turned into my mother when, age fifteen, I insisted that I didn't need to dry my hair before leaving the house.

My Mother and her Sister both regularly tell me that the other is turning into their Mother.
The fact that they don't see the same traits in themselves is mental.

a few years ago, when I was in my late twenties, I had been dangerously overtaken by a boy racer type, and I self-righteously said aloud (even though I was alone in the car) "is it any wonder they're killed on the roads?". that was the day I realised I was turning into my father.

My Luke Skywalker moment came about four years ago, when I found myself using the phrase "F*cken ape of a youngfella!" at least fifteen times a day after observing one idiocy or another. I also have three sticks for stirring paint in the shed. Good, bamboo ones too. :D

Last summer when I was spending my Saturday tidying out my garden shed (!) and realised I owned a designated stick for stirring paint :(

My father is a God fearing, Fianna Fail supporting, GAA watching man from a small rural village.

I never have been or never will be anything like him.

At the age of 18 I walked into the living room and saw my 12 year old sister playing with matches at the fireplace (something I did myself all the time only a few years earlier).

And I go "What the hell do you think you're doing messing with those?! You could burn the house down!" and it was as if my father himself had spoken - the tone was identical, my sister even looked at me a bit weirdly and the realisation struck me - I was becoming my father; something I thought would never happen!

"Erm...go back to playing with the matches!" and I legged it out the room :D

When I came home from work one day and my son was watching Dustin the turkey on tv, I muttered "Ahh Jesus, turn off that shìte!"...

Then I remembered the moment 20 years earlier when my father came home from work and shouted -

"AHH JESUS! GET THAT SKINT MICKEY OFF THE TV!!"... :pac:

Mid twenties, when I was dressed in a short skirt to go out then changed into something warmer because I was afraid I'd catch my death.

I have a getting out of bed sound (Eumph!), it's related to my getting up from an armchair sound (Umph!).

So basically, last year I turned into both of them.

After my voice broke around 12/13 I sounded exactly like my dad on the phone.

I'd answer the phone and say hello and straight away the people at the other end would just automatically assume I was my dad and launch into their chat.

Even when I'd interrupt and explain that I wasn't my dad it would take them a fair bit of time to cop they werent speaking to my dad.

In the past two years for me. I now have a pen, two supermarket club card fobs and two supermarket trolley tokens on my keys, and I keep shopping bags in the car. I have a short Mammy haircut (which I love!) and I've started knitting.

Nope - hasn't happened yet. My own father was basically incompetent at parenting - my mother wasn't much better - and I'm never going to be a parent, thereby side-stepping the problem altogether.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

My mother is terrible with finances only for my father we'd have nothing! I am sh!te with money go figure this I'd like to be more like my father!

All in all they were great parents that really took care of us so they did influence us in many ways & rightly so they were our parents.

I think I made the full transition this evening when I stepped outside and saw the moon - I said "oh, hello love!" to it. :o No, my mam is not a werewolf, but she is always surprised and delighted by ordinary little things; they are all alive to her.

"All women become like their mothers, that is their tragedy. No man does, and that is his".

I got the worst of both from a very early age, my mums fecklessness with money and my dads stubborness
