    Hi folks,

I was thinking of buying a Mf860 digger, does anyone have one? What do ye make of them? Only issues seem to be with the front axle wearing and lads dressing up 760s as 860s!

    All thoughts and opinions appreciated!

Not a bad digger handy enough around a yard unless you have low roofs, the top of the arm is bloody high when folded up, we have an older 50hx but its the same arm and we have to swing it out and leave it barely off the ground to get into 2 sheds :(
One of there biggest problems in the 860's is the engines can be hard to work on, you nearly need to be a monkey with elastic band arms to do a starter apparently as the big side plates cover them.

What sort of work will it be doing? If a lot of loader work id advise tryin to get a quick hitch on the rear arm or else just leave off the bucket, the extra weight and shuttling wrecks the bushes on the pivots but taking off the bucket makes it a bit easier on the arm

what are you using it for. I haven't heard of those problems as common ones really. I have a 05 terex 860 which is basically the newer model. only fault I have is that grass goes up between the oil cooler and rad when pushing up silage but sorted it this year when I got a brain wave to cover the gaps with duck tape.
other things to note is diesel tank is quiet small and that jacks could be a big longer. agri tyres are a must if going off road.

Had one for about 8 years 5 years of which would have been 8-12 hours a day 6 days a week.
Gave very little trouble though i'd prefer a 50 hxs for farm work .
860 was a serious machine to push and climb with the big front wheels

General tidying up on the land, ditches, hedges and drains. Cleaning out sheds and handling bales.. I have a mf50 and it gave us great service but is worn out at this stage.. heard about the jacks being short before, is this a really big issue?

And why would you prefer the 50hxs? Tidier around the yard?

removable backactor probably the biggest reason and lighter.
a good hxs are getting harder to find

The back actor isn't always removable... Well it is but it can be a job to get the u bolts out if it hasn't been done, one of them cracked on ours last year and it was a good half hour with gas to burn it out in the end, and it recked a nozzle or doing it... We'd tried every other route but to no avail. Got 2 u bolts as when one broke on last digger the other went shortly after but it's still on the shelf as its a gas job to......
