loads and loads of threads on this already on boards, just do a search and you'll find lots of recommendations on the islands, places to go, and discussions on accommodation.

Unless you have a something more specific in mind, like a place you're considering going or somewhere you want to stay, you'll find that the topic has been discussed to death...

Ahh Thailand! Don't sweat it. Do a little bit of research but rest assured the Thais will just totally immerse you in their great culture when you get there.I'd suggest a couple of days in days in Bangkok where you must see The Royal Palace (breathtaking) and Ko San Road (backpackerrs Mecca) and then off to Koh Samui for a stay in a beach bungalow.
I'd give Pattaya a miss if you are bringing your girlfriend but like the Thais say its "Up to you" and even if you both end up there you'll both still end up having a great time.
    Amazing Thailand!:D

If you can afford to book accommodation on the spot/at the last minute you can usually get better value, but if you want to pre-book I found Agoda to be typically 5-10% cheaper than the other main booking sites. Hotels/resorts often run 50-70% 24h discounts and promotional rates and you can get amazing bargains. The bulk of your money is going to go on actually getting to Thailand, nearly everything there is very cheap by European standards. I guess I'm saying don't spoil the trip by skimping too much on the accommodation, 'cos there are some real manky dives (always ask to see the room/bungalow first!) and for literally a few dollars more you can have relative luxury. Enjoy.
