JSA means test

I'm trying to help a friend do a means test for JSA - is this the correct way to do it

Married couple, 1 self employed husband, 1 unemployed mother, 1 child

    Income 20,000
    Max jsa per week = €342.60 (€188 + €124.80 + €29.80) 17,805

Therefore the wife wouldn't be entitled to a JSA payment?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

if im right they will assess his salary less any work related expenses for a 12 month period. you have to be able to provide receipts of previous expenses for them to consider them. for the purposes of a means test they will divide income by 52.

Based on your info above the following means test applies:
    20000/52= 384.6
less €20 for each day worked up to a max of 3 = 60
    = 3246
your means are calculated as 60% of above so total means is 194.8

you subtract your means from total payment allowed so 342.6-194.8= €147.8

thats what i come up with based on the means assessment I used to be on. pretty sure it hasnt changed but my partner was employed by company not self employed so like i said earlier your friends income may differ once expenses are considered.

    hope this helps.

Income for self employment is assessed euro for euro once expenses have been allowed. There is no disregard for days worked and the 60% rule applies to insurable emp.oyment only, not s/e

It would depend on what his net income is after business expenses are allowed
So - she wouldnt be entitled to a JSA payment?
