Legendary Aussie hunting film maker Tom Varney passed away this week which is a massive loss not only for his friends and family but the entire hunting community.

Tom made many fox whistling, deer and dog hunting videos that many Aussie hunter has on his shelves

Tom was my first interview on my first podcast and he was nothing but a gentleman who was all too keen to share his immense knowledge of hunting and it was an absolute privilege to be able to interview Tom and to have been able to have a chat with him

Tom’s videos were also instrumental in getting me interested in fox whistlng.

Vicfox from AusVarmint.com’s Forums had these lovely words to say about Tom’s passing:
I received an email yesterday informing us of the passing of Tom Varney from one of his Daughters. I had spoken to him earlier in the year where he told me about a battle he had endured with a cancer he had develop on his forehead which he had beaten but assume that its that battle that has continued eventually taking him this time.

For those who can’t recall or knew of Tom Varney he hailed from Gippsland known for his sporting and shooting abilities which developed into a love of duck shooting and fox hunting. His passion for calling foxes and wild dogs lead him to be regarded as the best at calling both and his passion evolved into sharing his exploits by releasing numerous DVD’s and videos over the last 15 years.

He spent his latter years in Esk Qld with his wife Barbara. Thomas his son shared his fathers hunts on film many times.
Tom also had 2 or three daughter and numerous grand children.

Tom was a terrific chap with a loving family and will be greatly missed. Tom faced some difficult challenges in his younger days but spent much of his later life giving back to the community and if anyone gets a express ticket to heaven it will be Tom.

    RIP Tom

We here at Abela’s Hunt & Shoot are deeply saddened to hear of his passing.

Thanks Tom for your great videos and the knowledge you have passed onto thousands of Australian Hunters, you are an Aussie Legend and will be sorely missed.
