PAYE & a little contracting on the side

just hoping that someone can point me in the right direction as so far I am being passed between PAYE & ROS on this one.

In 2012, I was employed as a PAYE employee but had some invoices (approx €10k) for other work carried out. I rang revenue in 2012 and they told me that the tax for this income would be due Oct 2013.

Roll forward to Oct 2013 and I have been onto revenue to find out how this should be paid; PAYE passed me to ROS but because I am not VAT registered or have a company number, ROS pointed me back to PAYE.

Very confused now and would appreciate some help on this one. Never thought it would be so difficult to pay my taxes.

    Cheers
    Whitey

Did you register as a sole trader yet? Can you not just sign up on ROS with your PPS number?

I did fill the ROS request out with my PPSN but after that spoke to the helpdesk via email and they said it was back to PAYE. Will try again tomorrow to see if someone can give me a definitive answer.

    This is very simple.

The amount of self employed income means you can't file through PAYE.

You therefore need to register for self assessment income tax, and THEN you can register to file electronically on ROS.

So google TR1, fill out the relevant section, which is income tax, and get on with it!
