Removing a lock ring

Hi does anyone know a way of removing an internal lock ring without the special pliers? I can pick one up tomorrow but if I can get it done tonight that'd be great!

If it's a small one, the tips of a set of nail scissors will do it. Watch your eyes though - without the pliers they tend to fly....
