I've been unemployed for 2 years and have been offered 4 months work which I'm delighted about. Just wondering once the work is finished do I go on job seekers benefit or will I be put back on job seekers Allowance? Also my friend was saying I'll be tax free as I was unemployed for more than 12 months? Thanks.

    A few questions:
    1. How old are you?
    2. Have you ever worked before or is this your first job?

To re-qualify for Jobseekers Benefit you need 13 PRSI contributions after exhausting JB.

If you were never on JB before you'll need to have 260 (5 years) paid contributions paid to get 9 months JB or 156 (3 years) paid contributions paid to get 6 months JB.

Even if you do re-qualify for JB, your average weekly earnings for the relevant year (which will be 2012 if you become unemployed in 2014) are taken into account for JB and you may not receive a full JB payment and optional Jobseekers Allowance may be a better option.

As far as tax, Jobseekers Allowance is not taxable but Jobseekers Benefit is (the first €13 pw of JB is exempt). So your tax liability will depend on what payment you've been getting for 2013.

Hi I'm mid 30s and worked for 17 years, signed on my stamps for a year then onto the dole for just over a year. Was told the money that i would earn for working the 4 months that i would be exempt as i was unemployed for over 12 months.Thanks.

It seems you would re-qualify for JB when your 4 months work is up. But as you did not have any earnings in 2012, you would receive the lowest graduated/tapered rate of JB (€84.50) and can apply for optional JA instead.

The welfare website is down again so here's the link to the Citizens Information one. Scroll down to rates section

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/unemployed_people/jobseekers_benefit.html

You will also see in the link that JB is taxable but as you were on JA for all of 2013, you should get your full tax credits for 2013. Whether you pay tax or not is determined by the level of pay received for the 4 months work.
