Ambassadors (Mitchell and Webb) BBC2

David Mitchell and Robert Webb (Peep Show, That Mitchell and Webb Look etc) star in a new comedy drama on BBC2.
Keith Davis (David Mitchell) is the newly appointed British Ambassador of Tazbekistan, one of the ex-Soviet 'Stans': newly oil rich, corrupt and ruled over by President Kairat (aka The Prez). Davis is ambitious and fancies himself in Washington or Beijing. He intends to make his mark in this posting. Though well aware that one major diplomatic event can make - or break - a career.

Standing beside him is Neil Tilly, Deputy Head of Mission (Robert Webb). A Central Asian expert, fluent in the language and romantic about the region. Neil's job is to put the Ambassador's plans into action. While Davis is out representing Britain, Neil is in the Embassy pulling the levers and managing the staff.

Also stars Keeley Hawes, Yigal Naor, Susan Lynch, Amara Karan, Shivani Ghai and Natalia Tena, and features Matthew MacFadyen.

Looks like a more meaty project than anything Mitchell or Webb have tackled before. Only 3* 1 hour episodes in the series. This has been in development for ages (formerly know as 'Our Men'). It is very rare for a comedy duo to transfer successfully from one Sit-Com to another, hopefully Mitchell and Webb can manage it.

Ambassadors premieres Wednesday October 23rd on BBC2 at 9pm

    Starts tomorrow
"There comes a time in the life of every youngish actor when he knows he will never play James Bond." David said.

"This is not that time. We're still holding out for that, but Ambassadors might be good to practice on."

Robert added: "It's sort of Yes. Prime Minister meets Spooks at a bad disco and Yes. Prime Minister is a bit sick on Spooks, but Spooks doesn't mind. It's like that."

Looking forward to this, hopefully it'll be so successful it encourages David Mitchell to turn down the next panel game show he is asked to appear on ;).

Oh Keeley Hawes is in it! (woof) :)

Right I'll say it...this will either be very very bad or quite good indeed. You see, I'm always 50% correct in my predictions.

Hard to know about that. The hour (without ads) seemed to drag on with not much happening. The best parts were when Mitchell and Webb were on screen together, which wasn't very often.

A few good scenes but there was neither enough drama nor comedy to sustain the full hour, for me.

Agree with all that. Webb is the actor of the two I think.

Anyone know if this is repeated? Missed it and can't watch the iPlayer yokey.

I don't see any repeats scheduled, unfortunately.

Watching this and really not enjoying it all that much. It's well made and Mitchell and Webb are good but it feels far too familiar and there's not a whole lot occurring. The first episode felt like it could just as easily have been 22 minutes and all the better for it.

The highlight of the series has been a certain actor from Frasier popping up

Is it just me or is David Mitchell slowly morphing into Charlie Brooker?
