Disguising ugly doors!

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask, but in our rented house, the doors are painted black. They're so ugly and dark. Obviously the house is rented so there's nothing we can do permanently, but would anyone have any creative ideas about how we could either disguise them or cheer them up?

Maybe you could hang a colourful wall hanging on them? Something like the format of a table runner could fit...

Yeah, I was thinking something along those lines alright, or big door posters. We'd need loads of them though because the painter obviously had loads of black paint they needed to get rid off - every single door is matt black!

You could always just contact the landlord see if they mind them being painted? You could always paint them black again when you leave if they are a big fan of black doors on their properties!!

We were thinking about that, but it would end up being a really big job because the door frames and skirting boards would need to be done too. It's the ideal solution, but this isn't going to be a long-term home so it's a bit too much work for us right now.

If the doors have those recessed panels, just paint the inner section/outer section.
Leave the frames and skirtings as they are.
Less to repaint and you could do each door in a different colour for a quirky effect.

Ikea do curtain panels and the cheapest one is a type of voile material, around 3 euro per panel, maybe you could attach them to cover up the doors?
Or look at some of their fabric and buy a few yards to try out some ideas. They usually have at least one pattern on special offer.
Expanding curtain wire and a few hooks and eyes and it can all be removed easily when you leave the house!

CAnd check Charity shops for wall hangings or other decorative stuff.

Rancid, that's a brilliant idea about just doing panels/parts of the doors!

We've though about it some more and Mr Faith's parents suggested something called Obliterator or something, which would save us having to strip and sand the doors. Now to discuss it with the landlord... If he's agreeable, then we'll definitely tackle them with paint!

Not sure what Obliterator is, but assume it's something like Zinsser primer, which is regularly recommended here for jobs like this.

If your landlord is reluctant (and no landlord should be when you're offering to do the work!) just go get a roll or two of wallpaper with some bright and cheerful pattern and do the door recesses.

Hope you get to do the painting. :)
    Good luck!
