Can't bring myself to watch it - I'll wait to hear that it wasn't a complete cringefest, and if it's safe viewing, see it on the player tomorrow :D

Just sounds like Da Lahv Line on da telly to me - which would be one dimension too far tbh

Well, I presume that you have to give consent to RTE (or whoever made this) to record you and broadcast it.

The traveller lad is staged I reckon know that area well - he's been picked up at the shops - 2 mins later he's on the road from north side returning towards those shops

That's the thing... I've literally only seen about three trailers for this (and all of them looked pretty poor) ,..... but if you knew in advance that you were going to be recorded, then it's all just staged ****e.... and if you didn't, and you came out with any stuff worth broadcasting, then surely - SURELY - you wouldn't agree to it

An awful lot of this comes across as staged, to be honest. Here we go on the old people, only a few hours cos of cutbacks .... Not paid for overtime or travel anymore.

Exactly, for data protection they would need to display in the car the purpose of why they are recording and also need your consent to show it so if you knew before hand you were being filmed for a TV show your reactions would likely appear staged to a degree I think.

Una-Minh Kavanagh (journalist/blogger) was on it earlier too I think?

Just flicked onto it there for a look and have to agree that it comes across as very set-up.

It's a pity, there's be much more craic if it was real life taxi driver/passenger interaction. Although probably a lot more racism too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,930 ✭✭✭COYW

Lol, the lady who worked in marketing is real Celtic tiger case. "We are hitting all our targets this year..." And then she tells the driver that the airport run is the cocaine run for taxi drivers ...
Although probably a lot more racism too.

    Was thinking that myself.

The nicest bit was when the driver knew the poor girls mam who had passed away the year before and was telling her stories about their school days.

Jesus, I feel like I've wasted half an hour here watching this.
    It's awful TV.
I think it should have been shown in between programmes for about 5 minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,033 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Well thanks very much folks - you've confirmed my suspicions, and I won't be tuning in to this any time soon.

Your man sold his car because he couldn't afford tax insurance property tax etc. What about broadcasting charge  he is contributing to the tripe rte feed it's viewers

Yeah and let's not forget that he sold his car because he can't afford to keep it on the road. However, he can afford the luxury of a taxi, as opposed to the cheaper option of using public transport.

I wonder how many seasons RTE are planning to get out of this already. The production cost most be very low figures.
I think the format has potential like the Norwegian president in the taxi. But RTE would put in some "celebrity" no one has ever heard of

What really bugs me is that all of the drivers were given an agenda to get people to talk about. The budget. I mean come on. If this is gonna be a reality show, let it be one and let people have their own agenda and not one which is forced upon them.

Well Heidi, if you tune into Joe later today I'm pretty sure he'll have all of the taxi drivers featured on the show Lahv in studio regaling us with their tales of woe......

    :)

    *shudders*

Thankfully I think Da Lahv Line will be outside my remit today. Between budget whinging, and the potential for taxi "wisdom" prevailing, I'm not sorry

Well, OP I had no idea I was being filmed when I went into the taxi at 3 in the morning last Sat! It was a friend's 30th and she had balloons with her in the back so it might make good tv for this rubbish programme. 2 of the other girls were with us and the one in the front got a shock when she heard about this show yesterday and recalled us being asked about being filmed by driver. I have no recollection of this whatsoever- to me it just seemed like
any taxi home! (perhaps being a bloke explains why I don't remember anything)
Can someone please tell me if there's going to be another programme as I couldnt see one for same time next week.
The 3 girls are all teachers so were dreading coming up on this which wasted an hour of our lives. I was planning to watch the doc about M McCann and will be wanting legal advice if we're on this.

If you didn't sign anything you can't be used I wouldn't think. Although I doubt balloons and the discussions of three drunk teachers is what this program is interested in.

Contact the production company if you're worried though.

Here's their contact details. Give them a call:

There was only one show commissioned. And you cannot be filmed for TV unless you sign a release form. If it was this show you would have been approached by an assistant producer re filming and not just the taxi driver.

I watched the last five minutes of this staged ''documentary'' last night. I had to say it was a program of pure tripe. I wouldn't bother watching it again because of the broadcast quality of the programme was very poor because there was no life in the programme.

You have failed yet again RTE. Well done on that.

Obviously it's staged. Nobody claimed otherwise did they?
