Home Insurance - Flat roof

    Hi Folks,

Had a quick search on here for any threads on this but nothing recent is showing up so hoping someone on here can help.

We have just bought a property in a managed apartment complex and are currently looking to get contents insurance but are having some difficulty due to the nature of the construction. The roof on our building is flat with a felt covering and we are only just finding out now that most insurance companies won't cover us. So far I have tried chill.ie and 123.ie and neither of those companies will cover us.

Has anyone out there had any luck with getting a similar property insured? Our management fees cover the exterior/buildings/structural insurance so we only need the contents covered.

    Thanks for the help.

the fact that there is a flat roof on the building shouldn't affect the premium for a contents only policy,or at least it didn't when i worked in insurance.
try with your neighbours if they have a policy.allianz and axa have good policies for renters, but chill as a broker could have offered these to you, suprised that they did not.123.ie only offer rsa policies.try axa direct on www.axa.ie

A flat mineral felt roof has always had an effect on the premium or acceptance for contents insurance. The fact that they are not as weatherproof in the long term compared to slate or tile, means that ingress of water is more likely to damage your belongings inside.

There are a number of insurers who specialise in this cover but most only operate through brokers. Find a good one and let them get the quote on your behalf
