Barry Connell is donating all the prize money Our Conor wins this season to the JT and Jonjo fund. What a gesture

That is a serious gesture considering the man is supposed to have paid €900k for the horse and Our Conor would be targeting prize money in the region of €300-400k this year.

But it also must be said that others (like JP) will give considerable sums of money without much publicity too so fair play to them also.

Reading that 500k was raised today and that's before the Our Conor dough

    Well done to all involved.

    Was it not 1.2mil?

He denied it was 7 figures recently but it was in and around that mark anyway. €900k was the first figure I heard and it might have been enhanced a little since. We'll probably never know. He paid €375k for Golantilla as well this year.

Just saw that Sue Magnier bought the plain grey racing silks for €55k, wonder will she use them colours for some superstar next year.

Fair play to him, on the publicity angle there is nothing wrong with going public as it might shame others with deep pockets to support the cause in such a generous way. I should hope JP is giving a few bob too.

Did the Our Conor syndicate buy other horse(s)?

Don't think they bought anything else together but the Hayes's have one or two other horses and they started the syndicate. I think there was 5 or 6 of them in it so about €150,000 each plus a bit of shrapnel.

I know JP gave JT's wife the use of his helicopter for the first couple of weeks he was in hospital and the fact JT rode out so many horses for Martinstown I'm sure he will be looked after by JP.

Jeez, i dont think anyone will be shaming JP into giving money, whatever you think of his tax status or the way some horses run the guy is extremely generous. Id guess he was the driver behind yesterdays event but would just do it quietly behind the scenes and you can be sure he's giving plenty.

    Couldn't agree more

I would imagine JP has donated hugely to JT McNamara's medical bills etc. You just won't hear about it. JP & JT go back a long way and JP was visibly upset when the horrific accident took place!

I'm sure he did pay €20k for a painting of JT aboard one of JP's horses at an auction during the summer.

Well done to Barry Connell all the same, fantastic gesture!

Yup, between the gate reciepts, the auction and donations from the general public and those with deeper pockets (JP, BOC, didnt O'Leary say he'd give 200K after punchestown?) im sure there's well over a million raised at this stage. Great effort, im sure the cost of JT's rehab must be colossal though it will all be needed.

On a side note, what kind of insurance do these guys have heading out. Surely when catastrophic injury is a risk then there would be cover or would it be limited to xxx amount, say 100k and immediate treatment like transport, immediate surgery, stabilisation and after that your on your own. I have no idea be interested if any of ye have any info.

Jeez, out of interest where did I say shame JP?

    JPs philanthropy is well publicised.
