Hi everyone would really appreciate any advice you could lend.

Car is over heating stopped driving it straight away. White gunk in the engine lid and wont hold water.

If anyone has a good contact or could recommend a mechanic to take on this job it would be really appreciated.

I am in drogheda meath/louth area. Radiator light is on. White mayonnaise in on engine lid which would suggest water leaking to engine. thanks

It could be the HG but it could be something else too.
Top up coolant level and wipe off gunk and give it a few more days while you keep an eye on level and cap.

When did you last check coolant level?
Do you usually drive shorts inside the town or long hauls down to Dublin?
    Does car smoke at all?

This engine is also known to have problems with cracks in the expansion tank on the side of the radiator (passenger side) and from the water pump (drivers side of engine).

Watch to see if water is being lost at these.

Also check the oil level -> if it is rising then water is getting into the oil = head gasket
If the engine is rough and/or lots of steam in the exhaust (especially when hot) = head gasket
