Part timer, how to get full time?

    Hi all,

I've been working part-time for almost a year now, and receiving part-time allowance. Before that, I was unemployed for 3/4 years. Generally I'm receiving way less than when I was receiving Jobseekers, and I'm trying to do the best I can, but it's very tough, particularly when I'm spending anywhere between €20-€30 a week on travel.

Anyways, I was in my social welfare office, and asked about full-time work, if there was any schemes or anything at all really to help me get full-time work. The lady pointed to the information stand. It had information for people who are unemployed rather than part-time, things like Jobbridge, CE schemes, etc.

I'm working in retail, and I have applied for many full-time jobs. Most of which I'm qualified for, but I think that employers are generally ignoring all the jobs I was in before my 3/4 years of being unemployed.

So does anybody know of any schemes, courses, anything at all that I could do? I'm never going to get full-time work where I work now unless someone leaves as it's a very small business. I almost wish I was fired so that I could do a Jobbridge or CE scheme, almost, or even take up a Fas course.

Feeling very frustrated, any help would be great. Thank you.

I don't know anything about Part-time, but would wonder about any ways that you can apply for some form of a Jobseeker's Payment that would at the very least even bring you up to the full week of a Jobseeker's rate?:/ Maybe it has something got to do with the way your hours are spread out through your working week, I never understand the Part-time format, it's rather complicated, but it might be something worth looking into......
