Bought a pair of these yesterday, where to go?

I was just browsing adverts.ie and I came across these. Thinking they looked very much like the pair my dad has had for years and years, I enquired about them and bought them. Apparently my dads are the same model, but his are 8x30.

They need a bit of a clean as you can see from the photos, and there are two bits of paint that have flaked off, but otherwise they are wonderful to look through. Ive had loads of cheap rubbish over the years, which were really dull and stopped me enjoying using them. You know the type, cost about €20-30 from Lidl! I paid €40 for these, but they are worlds away from the Lidl trash Ive been wasting money on, everything seems to have so much depth, things look 3D.

I live in Monasterboice, where would be some interesting locations to view wildlife here?

Its probably seen as very sad to be posting a photo of a pair of bins, but I love them and had to share my enthusiasm!

    Is Monasterboice in Louth?

Dundalk Bay will be filling up with hundreds and thousands of different species of Geese, Ducks, Waders and many other types of bird species so there'd be plenty to see there. If you go in the evening a bit before dark you should get to see the geese and some other stuff flying from inland fields into the bay to roost.

I think there's a Louth Birdwatch Ireland group? So it'd be worth emailing them and asking as they'd undoubtedly know all of the best places to see birds and other wildlife.

I think there are some mountains near Dundalk with plenty of Deer and other mammal species, and I'm sure you'd get a look at some Buzzards etc up there too, but I can't remember the name of it....

Cannot go wrong with a set of Carl Zeiss binocs if you want something that will last you decades.

The build quality in them is usually top notch and they can be ridiculously durable.

There may be plenty of fancier binocs than the pair you got, many with much higher specs, but I wager your pair may outlive them by some distance despite already having been around for some time already.

I still have an old set of Carl Zeiss binocs (7x50 range that were issued to the crew of U Boats) that my grandfather got during WWII, and they still work very well when looked through (not that I use them on a regular basis though) despite being more than 70 years old.

Also have a set that my father owned that must be about 40 years old at this stage, and they also work very well.

Yes, its about 5km north of Drogheda. Im surrounded by fields, but there isnt really much to look at other than crows, cows and a pheasant which seems intent on suicide by teasing my husky by venturing perilously close to my garden!

I've two pairs of Zeiss Jena bins, they are great for the price, only issue is that they aren't waterproof.

Congrats on the Zeiss bins - well regarded and excellent equipment ! Enjoy !!!

These links might be of help - Louth Branch of Birdwatch is a quite active group I hear !!
