Anyone know much about these machines ? There's loads of variants out there so trying to figure out which are the best ones to go for is a chore..

Wasn't the original Snatcher, an MSX game?

    Master of the Universe

Would the interface be all in Japanese like the X68000 I wonder?

I really wanted to buy one of them, but the serious lack of Japanese on my side was a big stumbling block.

Holland is the place to go if you want to pick one up. There's still a big fan translation scene over there as well. That's if you want to be stuck with 50Hz though. Some really good games on the system especially from Konami. You are better off getting a later model like the 2+.

On a side note check out the free verison of La Mulana for something that really replicates the MSX brilliantly.

Philips seems to have been a big player alright so loads of them in Europe, 50/60Hz stuff is not an issue for me on a computer.

It will be when you hear the music out of the MSX. Some of it is phenomenal and it would be a shame to ruin it with 50Hz.

Apparently, there are a few options to switch between 50/60Hz so that's that bit sorted.. Now, Sanyo/Sony/Toshiba/Philips.... jayus.............

A friend of mine was at a retro game event in Holland. Said it was a goldmine of MSX stuff. I would love to go. I was reading in HG101 that the fan translation scene is huge there and in fact Holland might have been the origin of the fan translation scene. The problem is they are quite insular so it's very hard to find fan translated games. There's some wonderful games that are fan translated such as War of the Dead 2.

Ya but did they translated to english or dutch :)

MSX was effectively their native home computer so not surprising they loved it.

Some to Dutch but most to english. Mostly they do both. It's unfortunate that they don't submit to romhacking.
