During the 2nd week of October 22021, 22022 and 22041 were all reformed at Laois Train Care Depot with 22041 losing vehicles 22641 to 22021 and 22741 to 22022. The first 4 car unit entered traffic on Monday 14th October 2013 with 22021 working the 0645 Portlaoise - Heuston, 0800 Heuston - Cork & 1120 Cork - Heuston services. http://smu.gs/16HbZar

Dare I say it but the 4 car sets look rather tidy.

They do look rather well, take it sets won't be getting renumbered anytime soon to match the changes.

heres hoping some will head for the rosslare line, no excuse for 2900s operating services on this line or sligo now.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

Given that 2-3 sets at a time will have to be pulled for this, while hopefully it will mostly align with maintenance windows it's not likely we'll know the final fleet dispositions for some time. Certainly it would be good if the Rosslare line could be optimised since a proper solution (6 car 22000s with SDO) isn't on offer.

These were used on the 17:30 to Galway yesterday and the 05:30 from Gawlay this morning. Not a great time to use 4 carriage trains, people standing from Kildare, it was full after Newbridge and than at Sallins and Naas there was hardly room for people to get on.

Irish Rail should use the 6 carriage trains for rush hour trains, as people were also standing on the 17:30 to Galway yesterday. I have an hour and a half on the train and I have to stand for half of that nearly it really isnt good enough.

There won't be any 6-car trains left once this reformation process is completed.

they said they would put 2 3 carriage trains together when demand calls and I think 5.30am from galway to dublin calls for more than 4 carriages

If the train was full from Kildare then it seems to me that service should be retimetabled as direct from Kildare with the capacity being made up by additional commuter service capacity.

I imagine that as the 4 car sets are rolled out there is going to be some juggling of sets around so that demand and supply are matched.

Saw it this morning when running for the 7.35 Galway train in Heuston. It ran the 8.00 Dublin-Cork. Looked really well, I was very impressed. I actually like the 4 piece sets, they look classier than the 3/6 pieces. Don't know why, but it looks so much better.

Went to Dublin today and travelled home via the 18:10 Heuston to Portlaoise, which consisted of 22041 coupled with 3-car unit 22063.

It was the first time I saw a 22000 train with a coach G. ;)

As it happens, the reformations of the 22000s coincide with the gradual spreading of the "tricolour arrows" logo among the class - resulting in some reformed units carrying both this and the old Intercity logo.

    Seconded.

Saw this today in Connolly, set 23 was a 4 car. The coach added to the set still had the Intercity logo on it.

Also on my way home, spotted my first 7 car formation.
