Would anyone know [low coolant/frost plugs]

    i was driving the car this morning and i noticed that the heating was not coming on , then i went to check radiator water levels i noticed water down a bit in coolant bottle when i opened radiator it did not have much pressure it did not squirt out when i opened it, wasnt really down a level

    i did see a small leak under engine and colant bottle did go down

    any ideas

    When was heating working last?
    Top up with coolant and see if heating works again.
    Keep an eye on it for a while to see if level drops again.

    Something similar happened me before.

    Had just checked my coolant level that day. Driving that night I noticed the heater wouldn't blow warm air. Shortly afterwards the coolant light came on. checked coolant and was almost gone, I hadn't tightened the coolant cap properly.

    Topped up with coolant and problem solved, made sure to tighten cap fully this time.

    Just bought it over to mechanic he said s it'd frost plug jumped out

    doing the timing belt as well now

    Just by luck today my heater in car would not blow hot air as it always did , i pulled in after a 1km, and thought i heard a gurgling noise , so i opened the bonnett , and checked water levels the plastic container was a bit low , i opened the radiator lid and was surprised there was no mad steam or pressure

    but there was a leak

    got it over to the mechanic and after a while he said it looks like a frost plug problem and that while he was doing it he may as well do the timing belt

    just wondering would this be right

    and why did the Frost plug pop was it because i had no ant freeze ???

    No its not a chain its a belt

    Fair enough, just thought I'd ask. The vvti's have a chain AFAIK.

    Generally a timing belt change takes about 3-4 hours and cost 3-400 euro at a decent independant.

    hear of Frost Plugs, one went in mine car was just wondering why ?

    so he is doing both jobs at same time

    I'm guessing it (frost plug) corroded, possibly caused by years of diluted coolant though have heard of a case where one corroded from the outside in.

    Is it diesel or petrol?
    If petrol - chain, if diesel - belt.
    Belts change is around 100K miles or so I think, could be less. Have you checked the owners manual?

    Might as well get the water pump done too, just below 500 all inclusive. Then again you should ask the mechanic for a quote, then maybe get a quote from 2 more places.

    its a petrol and its a belt,

    only got a water pump in about 4 months ago

    Non VVTI (as a 00 would be) have belts. VVTIs have chains.
