At the risk of coming across as appallingly ghey, I was just wondering, is there a female equivalent of Paul Newman?

The female that you'd love to hate, but you can't really.

    Cos they're just great.

    Paul Newman

    The decent,honest,loyal, ridiculously attractive bastard.

Heard of her, but don't really know much about her

    Is she cool?

I saw her do a duet with Dolly Parton doing "Jolene" which was pretty cool.

Audrey Hepburn is the nearest thing I've seen to Paul Newman

    Must be getting "auld". :(

But there's no aspect of Audrey Hepburn that anyone wants to hate. She was a truly lovely woman in every way.

Miley Cyrus is the opposite of cool tbh. She tries so hard that it hurts to watch.

Normally after I realise a celebrity isn't for me, I flick if their on telly, or don't bother with youtube clips of them. Can't say I've followed someone long enough to hate them.

Is that not a bit, you know, self defeating?

Good God this woman spews complete and utter rubbish 24/7. She's as fake as can be! She's beautiful and I think that she is very talented but I can't listen to her.

That was the point of the thread. I was just wondering which females (if any), other females hold in the same regard as fellas hold Paul Newman in.

There's defo something wrong with the syntax of that last sentence.:o

Urgh, the woman spews such nonsensical, illiterate bull**** she makes me shout at the telly whilst my wife is watching X Factor. She's so unbelievably full of stupid platitudes and fake drama fits that you can't even ignore her.

It appalls me that a woman like that is put on television in a position where young girls look up to her. Honestly, my 5 year old is more eloquent.

Maybe she's a smart woman behind it all (or at least her agent is is, she's certainly wealthier than I'll ever be) but it's so depressing that the role models young women have on television are either pretty airheads like Ms Sherizinger or bitchy, false crones like Sharon Osbourne.

Say what you like about Gary Barlow's music (it was never my cup of tea either) but he at least manages to hold on to his dignity and speak in something approaching English.

The post I quoted likened Audrey to Paul Newman. Not that I've ever encountered anyone who didn't like Paul Newman, but then again it's not exactly a subject that keeps coming up. I think he's an edible twinkly lovely.

I dunno, I'm not sure there are many people who want to hate someone...even if it's not really hate we're actually talking about, more like envy.

Jennifer Lawrence springs to mind, but she is still quite young..!

    Maybe Goldie Hawn?

I've heard from more than one female friend that Sandra Bullock fits your description.

Paul Newman was talented and charismatic too, 2 of the reasons he was liked so much. Nicole Sherzinger has none of those qualities. The opposite in fact.
What about scarlett johansson? Haven't heard anyone ever say anything negative about her.

  • Yeah, Mila Kunis is that person.

Yup. But, again that was the point.May have expressed it badly. Fellas might have envied Paul Newman, but, there was no jealousy because he was just a stand-up guy.

(With smouldering good looks, the bastid) :pac:

    Miriam O Callaghan?

She has it all, top female presenter in her genre...well she has two genres now. Earth mother of 8, intelligence, beauty, style, appeal that defies age.
It should be an extremely annoying package but you still can't help like her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,331 ✭✭✭deise08

Alright yere not liking the Nicole then. Jamie Lee curtis so. I know these people are all actresses or singers that are being mentioned are you lookin for somebody outside of these roles ?

Yep. Anyone. Surprised that Mary Robinson hasn't been mentioned yet.

    Fairly cool bird.

Not as cool as Paul Newman though! :p

She's one of the most unlikeable people in RTE and there's some tough competition.

    Sandra Bullock. It's Sandra Bullock.

We can all pretend we don't think it's Sandra Bullock to row the thread out a little longer, but the answer to your question is Sandra Bullock.

Emma Stone, Sandra Bullock or Mila Kunis.

It's got to be one of those three :)
