Tried to up load a picture yesterday but it wouldn't upload. What I saw were similar but a lot smaller and they were different colours...could they still be gall wasps?

Yeah, the gall wasps I saw were much smaller than the one in he photo, didn't know they could get that big. Possibly a few different species or stages of development? They looked like lots of little pimples on the leaf, almost like it had zits!

Spangle Galls? You get both kinds on lots of Oak trees.
Google pictures of them.

Or something like this. Its a spangle gall from the spangle gall wasp Neuroterus quercusbaccarum.
