Query on new holland SLE gearbox

    Had a look, few questions
Well went to see a couple of these over the weekend. Got a few questions though. I'm not that well up on the SLE gearboxes so not sure if there might be an issue but think there might be something that might cause an issue later down the line?

    Tractor #1
Left hand shuttle, works fine but only in the low gearbox I have to use the clutch before changing direction in the high box or it won't go.

Moving from the high to the low gearbox (outer lever) was fine

Moving through the ranges was quite good only one doing any kind of jumping was going into and out of #2. What I did notice was when moved back down from the upper range to the lower range the gears would go back to #1 instead of #4. I assume it shouldn't do that so what does that show?

    Tractor#2
Shuttle is on the gear console on the right, works nice and smoothly in all gears, high and low box

Changing between the high and low high box was a lot harder and needed to pushed and pulled pretty hard even with the clutch down.

Changing through the gears was ok again only jumping was in gear 2. What I did hear was a kind of whining noise after I changed.

On both tractors changing from the lower to upper range and back down was hard enough.

Also one of them is getting a new set of tyres front and back, what would a full set of tyres be worth?

The rest of the tractor was good on both counts, engine and other bits all working well. Just not convinced about the gearboxes or am I thinking too much?

Have 2 new hollands SLE s "right hand shuttles" both of them are a bit jumpy from 2nd to 3rd and from 6th to 7th because you are going into different packs you can calibrate them very easily from the drivers seat without a spanner, also both of the tractors are stiff to change from high to low box and back up again i dont know for sure why this is but just put it down to lack of use and the whine you hear is pretty normal if it is not excessive. IMO having one of the tractors 4 years and bought another one this year i will "NEVER" buy a manual shift tractor again after getting use to the sle gear boxs as for tyres dont know what back ones cost depends alot on brands but i put a new set of 420/R28s bkt agri max oon the front of one there a 3 months ago @E420+vat

Cheers, what do you make of the jump from 5 to 1 instead of 4? I still think that it might be a sign some thing is iffy. Is this something that can changed from the seat too?

Nope when I change down from the pure range 5th it goes into 1st rather then 4th. The gears light up in the upper range and the dash but not in the lower range

Ok, that makes a bit of sense. Can you change down the range on the move or is it like changing down from high to low (II to I) box. Thought these could only be moved when stopped? The lever to change range was quite tight so needed to stop to change down and up.

all them leavers do is pull a cable which sounds like they are kinda ceased, "was it lying up" its the button that changes the gears through the solinodies say your turning into an entrance of the road in 8th and press the clutch it goes down to 5 it self, if you turn of the tractor in 4th and turn it back on it will be back in 1st and yes you should be able to go from II to I when moving but you will have to clutch it

What year are they? Heard of some of them popping out of 4wd when reversing, think it was because the teeth had worn on the drives. Not much personal experience of SLE, thank God.

Both TS's then so "should" be okay.

Limited driving knowledge of them but would stick with SL DP if you can.

At 6k hours you are into selector changing territory with these.

One has 7k on the clock and the other 5k. Sle ones are easier got and I do like being able to step up through the gears with out clutching.

What's does changing the selector involve?

have a 8340 here with 12.5k hours on it never being touched get a good sle and you will never go back to a manual shift

Changing selector involves a cab off and open the top of the gearbox job.
