Just for fun. Which celebrity can you beat??
    • Laurent Jalabert, former professional cyclist, 2007 Barcelona Marathon (2:45:52)
    • Lance Armstrong, former professional cyclist, 2007 New York Marathon (2:46:43)
    • Jenson Button, Formula One driver 2012 Honolulu Marathon (2:58:34)
    • James Cracknell, former British Olympic rower, 2008 London Marathon (2:59)
    • Harry Reid, United States Senator from Nevada, 1972 Boston Marathon (3:16:xx)
    • George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States, 1993 Houston Marathon (3:44:52)
    • Flea, Bassist from Red Hot Chili Peppers, 2011 Los Angeles Marathon (3:53:00)
    • Will Ferrell, 2003 Boston Marathon (3:56:12)
    • Ronan Keating, pop artist, 2008 London Marathon (3:59:33)
    • Sarah Palin, former Governor of Alaska, 2005 Humpy's Marathon (3:59:36)
    • Paul Ryan, 2012 Republican vice presidential nominee, 1990 Grandma's Marathon (4:01:25) There was big controversy about that time
    • Amanda Holden, 2008 London Marathon 2008 (4:13:22)
    • Sean Combs, 2003 New York City Marathon (4:14:54)
    • Alanis Morissette, Canadian singer Trail Marathon 2009 (4:17:03)
    • Oprah Winfrey, 1994 Marine Corps Marathon (4:29:20)
    • Shia LaBeouf, 2010 Los Angeles Marathon (4:35:xx)
    • Katie Holmes, 2007 New York City Marathon (5:30:xx)

God I'd love to beat Oprah Winfrey's time. I did a half marathon in 2hr 07min yesterday but I don't think I'll come anywhere near it in DCM 13'. Apparantly it's the called the "The Oprah Line":
The Oprah line is a colloquial term for Oprah Winfrey's finishing time of 4:29:20 in the 1994 Marine Corps Marathon. Completing a marathon in a faster time (known as "beating Oprah") has become a notorious goal among the slower participants in marathons,[1] much like faster runners might strive to finish with a Boston qualifying time.

Take the average of all every "celebrity" time, and try and beat it. It's called "the Moron Line".

(Better still, just run the fastest race you can, period.)

Every October in the run up to DCM Kurt becomes a narkier fcuker than normal :)

One missing from there is Nell McAndrew's 2:54:39 in London a few years ago. I'd be over the moon if I ran that in April.

Yes looks like it was wiped:
New York Road Runners, which runs the New York Marathon, said in a statement Wednesday it expected to wipe out his times once any potential appeals play out, since the race also follows USADA rulings.

Paced by running greats Alberto Salazar, Joan Benoit Samuelson, and Hicham El Guerrouj, Armstrong finished in 2 hours, 59 minutes, 36 seconds in his first marathon. After training more the following year, he completed the 26.2 miles in 2:46:43 to place 232nd in 2007.

Imagine being professionally paced just to get under 3hrs..

How did you manage to make it look like beepbeep said that?
FWIW I think beepbeep will break 4:30 too; if he doesn't I think Kurt will be having a fit ;):D

Why do you say that? What's the background to the Oprah time?

I remember back around 2007 (I think) p-diddy or whatever he calls himself ran NYC IN 4ish hours. A lad I was working with at the time finished behind him. He never heard the end of it :)

P-diddy = puff daddy = Sean Combs, 2003 New York City Marathon (4:14:54)
and yes I'm embarrassed to know that:o

I have heard a recount from a worker on the 14th street bridge that basically said they had to keep the bridge open past a certain time just for her. The time she passed the bridge would mean that she would have to do the remainder of the race too fast to break 4:30. Its like JFK all over again :)

Is there any confirmed time for any of Joe Strummer's three marathons? (London 81 and 83, Paris 82)

He claimed a PB of 3 hours 20 but also claimed to have a zero-mile 4-week taper - and fuelled up on 10 pints the night before:

At least the celebs on the original list who are ahead of me are pro athletes. And the 2 cyclists were obviously doped to their back teeth. I was impressed by the Nell McAndrews one alright, marathon time, I mean.

Is this the most impressive celebrity marathon of all? Bjorn from ABBA ran the 1980 Stockholm Marathon in 3:23:54:

I remember being seriously annoyed last year to finish about 10 mins behind Bob Hope from Emmerdale at the Greater manchester marathon, I'd assumed he was doing it as a once off for charity. I hadn't realised how serious a runner he is, i think his PB near enough the 3 hour mark (marathon talk listeners will be familiar with his "Trials"")

No official time, they showed up at the last minute, supposedly with no training either. Still finished just over four hours.

I finished with almost exactly the same time as her that year, a friend of mine who saw her finishing on the telly couldn't understand why I wasn't visible as well. My explanation of chip times seemed to be lost on him :)
