Stove advice needed

Moved into a 9-year old but previously unoccupied house about six weeks back. As has been quite cold lately, have been using our brand new Cara stove quite a lot. Problem is the chimney breast which is quite thick and solidaly built gets very, very hot to the touch and the plaster has cracked. Does anyone know if this is normal or whether we should get Cara or the builder we bought the house off to look at the flue? All advice gratefully received
