Invalid MMI code galaxy ace

    I want to unlock my Samsung galaxy ace s5839i but when i type #7465625# and dial up comes a notification saying invalid mmi code. The person who sells unlock codes says i shouldnt buy the unlock code as it wont work and it is a firmware problem. Vodafone sent it away but the Invalid mmi Code still comes up. The firmware is up to date with samsung kies. When i type it into my other phone up comes invalid mmi code aswell so could it be the sim card??
