CD player cutting out

Cambridge azur640c CD player stops after about 6 or 7 tracks. Won't play until you open and close it again. Then plays fine for another few tracks until it stops again. Don't thinks it an over heating issue, have tried CD player on top and to side of amp. Any ideas? It's at least 12 years old. Thanks paul

Is there gunge collected on the laser track? ie the mechanism that moves the laser along the cd. Some trays allow you to see this, some don't, just a thought.
