Arriving at Red Cow LUAS with the dublin coach I need to get in Connolly Station, what line/bus/tram should I take from there? Is it close or do I need to walk somewhere?

By the way, I'm assuming by "Connolly" LUAS means this place:

The coach drops you right to the Luas stop (this might not be the case with other some other operators). Get a tram in the direction of Connolly or The Point. If it is to The Point, either change at Busáras or walk around the corner to Connolly - it's a 2 minute walk.

The bit with the canopy is the tram stop, the train station is upstairs: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Connolly+Station,+Amiens+Street,+Ireland&ll=53.351051,-6.250255&spn=0.004982,0.015278&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=53.350868,-6.250344&panoid=_0iOc7-ixekTYSSIiLkbmQ&cbp=12,67.07,,0,-1.92

    Thank you!
I actually just need to be around the Connolly station area, then I'll take a taxi to go somewhere "close", about 3km away. Hopefully 3km taxi is gonna cost reasonably ;)

There are lots of bus options. Put your exact locations (Red Cow Laus and ultimate destination) and relevant dates and times into www.a-b.ie and tweak the settings.

The Luas that you get at the Red Cow stop, will terminate at Connolly Station or The Point. You can get either one. If it terminates at Connolly, get off there and the taxi rank just outside the station door. If the Luas terminates at The Point, get off at Busaras and the Connolly Station rank is just across the road. The taxis in the rank will be facing towards the river and the south side.

If you are heading to somewhere on the north side, it's probably better to walk up Amiens St (heading away from Busaras & the Custom House) and just flag a taxi down, that is already driving north on Amiens St. There are always loads of them passing by. If you are heading to the north side, the south facing taxis in the rank will have to find somewhere to turn around. The traffic is so heavy in that part of the world, it can take them a while to turn around, which only hikes your fare up further.

I need to get in Ballsbridge (I sort of giggle every time I say that name) to the embassy. I see there's only 1 exchange that takes me fairly close, might go with that, will definitely be cheaper. Thanks for that site, by the way.

You should get off at the Abbey Street stop, you can get either the 4 or the 7 bus from O'Connell Street (which is right beside Abbey Street) and either will leave you at Ballsbridge.

Telling you where the stop is would have been helpful! If you go to the stop on O'Connell Bridge (walk towards O'Connell Street from the Luas stop, turn left and walk straight ahead, it's not far at all) you can get both buses from it:

Be careful...the Luas Red Line is like Beirut.

I'd vote for getting the bus too. It stops directly across the road from the embassy, if it is the US one that you mean. If its any of the others, the 4 & 7 passes them all by, as it goes down Merrion Road heading towards the Merrion Gates.

Get a train from Connolly or Tara St and get off at Lansdowne rd for the US embassy ,Sandymount for the British one or Sydney Parade for the Spanish one.

I would say the best way to go is get on the luas at red cow, get off at the kylemore stop and take an 18 bus straight to Ballsbridge

I would only go with this option if I wasn't in a particular rush. Depending on the time of the day, the 18 can be relatively infrequent so if you just miss one it can be around a 25 minute wait for the next - the Luas would be almost in the city centre in that time. The route it takes, again depending on the time of day, can also slow it up due to traffic etc. That's just my opinion, but I'm speaking as someone who lives close to the Red Cow and goes out to that part of the city on a regular enough basis via public transport.

The NTA transport puts it at the fasted way to get from Red Cow to Ballsbridge at 47 minutes, with travelling via the city centre, taking over an hour. Obviously because the 18 is so infrequent, I would say you'd have to time it quite well which shouldn't be a problem if you have the real time app on your smart phone.

I'm not disputing what it says but speaking from experience it has taken me longer than that on several occasions. As I said in the previous post I would only go with that option if I wasn't in a particular hurry, or else travelling at times when traffic volumes are low.

Thank you for all the answers, guys. Yes, I think I'll go with the "most frequent options" route, as I can't afford too many delays/waiting (which is why I originally planned on the taxi).

By the way for future memory / those wondering, the JJ Kavanaugh bus costs the same and takes you directly to connolly, rather than red cow and arrives earlier as well (even though it departs half an hour later). I just realized this by chance this morning after I missed the dublin coach ;)
