I think it looks really pathetic when RTE 1+1 shows a blank screen for a half an hour instead of reeling in the years. Are the music rights really that expensive ? Also why isn't it running 24/7 ?

Indeed, why isn't RTE Jr running 24/7 as well.

    The answer is shared.

No capacity, it timeshares with RTÉjr.

 Your answer didn't give all the facts.

You failed to mention the lack of spare multiplex capacity.

You also failed to mention that this was the version approved by the Dept of Communication which will be reviewed next year.

    Err, so did you!!!

He only asked why it didn't run 24/7; that was answered.

No worries anyway, a lot of people on message boards hit reply to a post without reading the rest of the thread.

Isn't RTE ONE+1 supposed to be reviewed Next month. I wonder will this review take place or will it be left on the long finger and continue to broadcast as a part time channel on Saorview?

    This from the decision document
All the approved services and channels shall be reviewed by RTÉ within 4 years
(i.e. no later than February 2014) and a report on these reviews shall be submitted
to the Minister by June 2014 at the latest. This review shall, interalia, study the
continuing need for these services and channels in light of technology and societal
developments and the potential for enhancing the public service value of these
    services and channels.

True, but why can't they stay on air a bit longer? RTEjr doesn't start until 7am. Some nights RTE 1+1 finishes shortly after 1am.

I noticed on Saturday that rte one +1 was on air from 5.40pm with big big movie and rte junior was still on air as well . I think they should make +1 a full time channel it is handy

Initially, when both channels moved to Mux 2, they were being carried on separate streams. So if you had a box with no MHEG-5, or a TV that allows you to disable it, then you could see the "channel currently off air" card full time. It didn't last long in this configuration. I think they're still technically separate streams though.
