    Hi,

I was wondering if you could help me with my problem. I brought in a vehicle from the UK last week. I have booked my appt to pay the vrt. I am originally from the country however am currently living in Dublin. I have booked my test to a country test centre as I am off that day and will be back down the county.

My bank statements are registered to Dub but all other correspondence is to my address in the country.

Will they let me register the car to Dublin or will I have to register it to my original address? Are they sticklers for this?

On a side not I have an inbuilt sat nav in the car. Is that going to up the price of my vrt?

    Thanks in advance.

What exact model/spec/year is the car?

the County identifier depends on your address....they ask for a driving license as proof of ID but I don't know if they check the address on that against that you give them when re-registering. On balance, it seems your address is more Country than City, but take your Bank Statements and actually ask them to use your Dublin address, it's no skin off their noses after all.

They normally look for your driver's license and a utility bill and will register it to the county of the address on them.

And they charge VRT on extras on cars up to 4 years old. They depreciate those extras over 4 years, so VRT could be calculated as a percentage on 25% of the original cost of the Sat Nav and any other non standard fitted factory extra on a 2010 car.

unless you want to show them your bank statements (showing dublin), you would normally use a utility bill (electricity, heating) and they use that as the county for your new reg, so if they are in your name and refer to Dublin, you will get a Dublin Reg.

Be prepared to get an out of sequence number for a 2010, if in Dublin it will be 10-D-120xxx. Each county has a different sequence. They only changed it back to regular sequence from 2011 onwards.

If your proof of address has dublin on it, it will be registered to that address.

It will be a manual valuation because the car is under 4 years old, so extras may be charged for.

What address is on you licence ? Your tax statements ? If country, use those.

What address is your PPSN linked to ? You have to supply that to them too, so it would probably want to match.

Can I ask why it would make a difference on the reg? Its a import anyway, so that alone would be a larger factor in the resale value than the reg. Or is it purely for aesthetic reasons?

It probably will. Its in their eyes a 'higher spec' car. And its what they think its worth, its irrelevant what you paid for it.

Looks like for many people it makes a difference in value.
So if someone can have his car worth more just by having D on the numberplate, then why not.

I have no issue if someone wants a D, C or whatever plate for whatever reason they wish. Its their car, enjoy it! But to me the value is the same. Its the same piece of metal just with a different letter on the front and back. Your a lunatic if you think its worth more or worse, are willing to pay more for it.

    Same as me.
I couldn't give a hell what letter I have on my plate.
But when me or you will be selling our cars, we will be dealing with people who might want to pay more for car with D reg. That's why it's worth having.

Emma just get the culchie reg!! :)

Your reg will depend solely on the proof of address you give to them. Your PPSN address doesn't make any odds whatsoever, a huge proportion of people in their 20s have the wrong address linked to their PPSN due to moving around so they don't pay any attention. I have VRTd my car in Kerry but used a bank statement with my Roscommon address on it. She told me if it had been my ESB bill which goes to my Kerry address I would have got a KY reg. I didn't care too much one way or the other but decided to be patriotic when I had the option!!

If you use your bank statements, you'll get a D reg. If that's what you'd prefer for whatever reason, then happy days!
