Go and drive both Limerick cars first, to get a sense of them. Then decide if you want to view the Mullingar car too.

Be wary of clunking at start up (flywheel) and noisy injectors

I assume you know 2 of those are imports?

With the 05OY one there are 4 owners. Now 4 owners on an 05 isn't massive, but for an MPV type car that people usually keep longer it'd concern me.

Back seats are a bit manky too (owner is also selling dogs)

With the grey one, it says one previous owner (d reg car in Westmeath that's also an import had me suspicious) its actually on at least its third owner (assuming one uk owner, may be more)

The silver one (05lk6422) has one irish owner plus whatever uk owners.
I actually like the look of that one the best.

It'd all come down to service history for me.

Thanks for the feedback..great to know all of this info.
I'm thinking of going for a petrol verso now as they tend to be less expensive to service etc...
What do you think of this one:

    Appreciate any feedback.

Looks genuine, one owner, good colour, just wrong spec, no aircon - which you'd need on a verso.

I like the middle one. Similar to my own. Agree 100% with Colm though.

Have you checked across the pond for one?

    Thanks for the feedback...

Never thought about the aircon. Shows how much i know about cars..

There's this one also in Donedeal
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sal...r-sale/5628577
It's petrol and i've left a message with the owner...It appears to be a good deal so it will be worth the trip to Dublin.

We did think initially about heading over the pond but we really don't have the time..Heading up to Dublin will be as far as we'd go.
There's so many cars out there for sale and when you don't have much knowledge of cars, it can be head wrecking.

I kinda need to get a car fairly soon though.

If anybody else has any suggestions??? Or links to cars..

I really appreciate all of this advice. I feel that when I find the right car it will be worth it...

    That link doesn't work

    This should work:

So many links now to different cars, I'm getting a wee bit confused.

Called and left a message earlier.

Loos good, little dent on the back door in case you missed it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 Bluebells4

Missed that dent...Will wait and see if they call.

    Also, noticed this one today:

That's a great colour, back seats are in a bit of a mess but should clean up, don't get a great vibe off it, manky stains on the seats, mud on the back of the seats, way too much stuff in the seat pocket, front headrest burst (easily fixed but shows owner doesn't care)

Maybe the seller hasn't the time to prep the car for sale but still...

Don't rule a car out over a dent or a bit of vomit but these are bargaining points

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 Bluebells4

    Yes you are right.
Will await a reply from the car owner with the dent... Might bargain him some more. Will keep looking on Donedeal..

Although after looking at these Toyota Versos, they do seem to be very overpriced for an 05..My budget is only about 5-6000.
Who knows I might even change to a different type of car.. Will keep you posted.
    Thanks

If you're on that kind of a budget, why not consider a Zafira? They're reliable and have 7 seats like a Verso. On any MPV, avoid anything that doesn't have working aircon, or worse, something with no aircon at all - you'll need it with all the glass, especially in the winter otherwise you won't be able to see out properly any day it rains (aircon stops the windows from fogging up when it's turned on and working properly)!

With a Zafira you'd need to get a Comfort or Elegance spec to get aircon, try and get one with a 1.8 litre engine too, MPVs are tall and heavy and need the extra muscle of a larger engine (even a 1.8 will be very anemic when fully laden), a 1.6 will seriously struggle out of town if you've got a family and all their luggage on board and will drink fuel as a result (this also applies to a Verso).

Thanks for the suggestion but I think I'll stick with looking around for a Verso for another while.

I had a call back from one of the seller's i contacted.
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/cars-for-sale/5628577
The NCT is just out and I asked the guy why he didn't renew it. He said that he was changing to a newer Verso so he didn't bother getting a new NCT? He said that it's in perfect working order and will have no problem passing the NCT.

    What you think??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,531 ✭✭✭glic83

If it would have no hassle passing the nct he should really have the nct done, always helps to have a valid nct when selling a car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,481 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

The advert is 37 days old, you'd imagine he would have NCT'd it by now to help sell it faster.

I presume you are getting a mechanic to inspect it before buying?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,220 ✭✭✭✭Lex Luthor

The one near Mullingar looks to have the best spec. I like colm agree that 1 previous owner may be a bit misleading as its an import

Car looks to be advertised by Toyota but dont see it on their web site for used cars

Would be worthwhile giving them a ring and see who is actually selling it..there is Grange Motors in Mullingar and they have a 2.0 Diesel TSpirit spec for 8k

The guy selling the Verso in Dublin has agreed to do the NCT. He's going to phone the NCT centre tomorrow to make an appointment. Yes we will get a mechanic to have a look over it before buying. Anyone know any mechanic in Dublin to look over the car? The car is located near Portmarnock.

Regarding the car in Mullingar - it does have the nicest spec but the person selling is not returning phone calls? Also, we have decided to switch from diesel to petrol. Appears that petrol are easier to maintain and fix if things go wrong...

    Many thanks for your feedback.
