paypal withdrawal limit email

Got an email from paypal saying my withdrawal limit had been lifted, found this odd as I only use it with my credit card. There was link on the email and without thinking I stupidly clicked on it and logged in to my a/c from the link.

While everything looks legit, on second thought it seems a bit odd paypal would sent an email with a link for a service I've never used. Is it a possible phising scam?

PP recommend that you never log in from a link.

Check the top toolbar , at web address and see if the padlock is there and locked .

If it is , then is is safe and secure logging in .

    Not always.

You've likely had your PayPal account compromised and I'd suggest cancelling any associated cards ASAP

Your next move is to forward the paypal email to spoof@paypal.com and they will let you know if it was genuine or not. ( do not change the subject line )

Also check the email , again , and note that Paypal always address you by your first name/last name , or business name

Here's a copy of the email I received from service@intl.paypal.com:

    Dear (my real name),
Congratulations! Your withdrawal limit has now been lifted. You can now withdraw unlimited funds from your PayPal account.

Please keep in mind that there is a minimum withdrawal amount. For more information, go to

    https://www.paypal.com/ie/cgi-bin/?cmd=_display-withdrawal-fees-outside

To withdraw funds, log in to your account, go to the "Withdraw" subtab of the "My Account" tab and follow the instructions.

    Yours sincerely,
    PayPal

Sent the email to spoof@paypal.com and got this reply I got back "Thanks for forwarding that suspicious-looking email. You're right - it was a phishing attempt, and we're working on stopping the fraud. By reporting the problem, you've made a difference!" , seems to be a automated response.

The link has has correct VeriSign certificates and is https, also did a comodo web inspector check that came up clean.

Either it's a sophisticated phising scam or paypal don't know what there at, anyway changed password and deleted cc details to be on the safe side.

Its a few years ago since I had those type phishing attempts , and I use Paypal regular.

Your situation confirms the importance of NOT logging into Paypal from an email link.

I wasn't aware of a minimum withdrawal amount , as stated in that email .

Best to ensure your operating system has the latest updates , and you have up-to-date virus checker.
