    Hi,
I will be visiting Galway on Saturday 19th of October and I will be travelling by bus. I am just wondering what bus do I get from Eyre Square to GMIT and how much does it cost?
    Thanks :)

    409, 402 or 410.

    All cost 1.80.

409 is the most frequent, leaving Eyre Sq every 15 mins.

409 is the most reliable, leaves from Eyre square just across the street from O'Connell's Pub,

one leaves every 15 minutes midweek and saturday and every 30 minutes on a sunday

402 alternatively can be boarded from the top of the square just in front of the Bank of Ireland, Midweek they are every 30 minutes, however on a sunday they will only be leaving the square every hour from the half hour eg. 13:30 14:30 15:30

Just be aware that a lot of bus companies, at least the one's from Cork, Limerick and Dublin stop in GMIT before going to the city. Might save you a bit of bother going in and back out from the city.

    Hi,
Thanks for letting me know. I checked the stops for my route and unfortunately I have to go into the city centre and then back out. It will be nice to see Galway anyways! :)

The bus driver will sometimes stop and let you off even if its not an official stop. Ask nicely, worth a try.

Yeah I was considering that but I don't think the route passes GMIT

I forgot to ask - Do I just ask the bus driver for a ticket to GMIT when I get on at eyre square or is there a different name for the stop? Thanks

No need to say which stop you're going to at all

Nope, simply ask for GMIT and the driver will know.

The college is on the left hand side of the road as the bus heads out of Galway and the bus stops right outside.

Here's what to look out for. You can't miss the place really !

Welcome to Galway and hope you have a great time here !

All fares are the same. If you don't know exactly where it is ask driver to give you a shout. They usually remember.

Thanks everyone :) So do I just put €2 in the box on the bus and sit down? I'm probably making a big deal out of nothing as usual!

Don't think we have boxes yet but I haven't got a bus in a while. Just hand it to the driver and say 'Howaya Now!'. The rest just happens.

"How to use a bus" has gone out of print.

On the buses the OP is getting that's true. But on others, the CityDirect ones, the fares are different.

Also, CityDirect buses do have boxes, it's just BE don't.

Lastly, "How to catch the bus in Galway" has never been in print, but you can find it here: http://www.galwaytransport.info/2008/12/how-to-catch-bus-in-galway-to-catch.html

Funnily enough, it's quite popular: Galway gets a number of young English language students, some of whom have never caught the bus before, or who know nothing about how "the system" here works. So they're looking for information which is that detailed. It's amazing just how much social ettiquite can go into an activitiy that most of us find drop-dead-simple.

I gave the page a bit of a reformat last night after you'd called it to my attention, and even now I can think of ways to make it clearer still.
