    Hi,

I'm about to buy a deutz DX 3.50 for around the farm . . Rolling and lifting bales and stuff. To replace my old 178 .

Is this wise? Are they a good tractor?

Not sure of year yet, prob 85 or 86.

Costing me 5k. Is that a good price?

I have a 4.51 '91 and she's still 100%. She used to burn a clutch every 750 hours when doing a lot of loader work feeding 100 dairy cows and followers. I'd give her that tbh. They can have trouble with the air-cooling if the cylinder fins weren't kept clean esp on the cylinder closest to the cab but most Deutz I've seen were trouble free apart from wear and tear.

Good advice here, engine is superb.

One thing I will say to the OP is that a 3.50 is smaller than the 178 he is replacing.

    thanks for that.

What horse power is the Deutz 3.5?

Would the Deutx 85 be closer in size to the 178?

Would need something that I can go topping with etc.

They are about 50hp if I remember correctly.

Deutz DX 85 would be more like it but they are from the late 70's and some of those gearboxs are weak.
