So we had some model one with questionable ability doing the job last time round at the rep. of Ireland game. But this time the FAI push out the boundaries yet further by getting Dracula to sing it.

Hope Linda Martin and Twink kiss and make up so we can let them have a whack at it.

There are worse singers than her, to be fair.

Nothing to do with her singing.
    She's just an awful wreck

The FAI had nothing got to do with it.

    Get your facts straight.

Sinead is probably the best female singer this country has ever produced.

yeah, but who's going to sing the anthem?

I thought he did a cracking job. It was like he was consciously performing it in an upbeat way, cognisant of the crappy below par, ballady way it was performed against Austria. So much so that he even changed a note on the last bar to a more euphoric, emphatic tone.
I happen to think that Amhran Na bhFiann is an incredible anthem with an unbelievable crescendo, for me it's up there with Star Spangled Banner and Marselleise (sp?). That might be a comment for the designated thread on that at the moment, I know, but the point I am making is that I appreciate the licence he took with the anthem because it worked.

Was it just me or did he get alot of the words wrong? Like saor instead of saol?

The German anthem sounded great. Well sung.

    He did well, in fairness.

You got exactly what you'd expect to get if you get Johnny Logan to sing the national anthem in a sports stadium.

With an open-shirt, large-thin-floaty scarf bonus.

Well Ireland have been playing like the living dead so it's probably appropriate.

He's poked fun at for his patently cheesy showbiz affectations.

But even then, I think many Irish folks have a soft-spot for him and wouldn't tend to be malicious when taking the mick.
