It's a fair haul - 2 hours each way = 20 hours per week. Put your exact locations and relevant dates and times into www.a-b.ie and tweak the settings.

Do look at getting a www.taxsaver.ie ticket, but note that your employer must take part in the scheme.

You should be able to get a combined Bus Éireann / Dublin Bus ticket from either operator and Irish Rail should be able to get you an Irish Rail / Bus Éireann / Dublin Bus ticket.

The 06:00 Bus Éireann route 109 from Cavan Bus Station will get you to Merrion Row (St. Stephen's Green) for 0810, leaving a ~13 minute walk to Harcourt Road (or Dublin Bus route 14, 15, 15a, 15b, 44, 61, 140, 142 from Kildare Street / St. Stephen's Green East).

The 06:55 Bus Éireann route 30 from Cavan Bus Station will get you to Busáras (via airport) for 0850. Then either get a Dublin Bus 14 or 15 from Connolly Luas stop or walk to Westmoreland Street and get a Dublin Bus 9, 16, 83, 122, 140 or 142 for arrival about 0915.

The 07:00 Bus Éireann route 109 from Cavan Bus Station will get you to Kildare Street (St. Stephen's Green) for 0905, leaving a ~13 minute walk to Harcourt Road.

If you drive to M3 Parkway, you will have to pay tolls, but I think parking is free http://www.irishrail.ie/M3%20Parkway#sa3 Note that all peak time train services operate to Docklands Station, not Connolly/ Tara Street / Pearse, so you would have to change somewhere between Clonsilla and Broombridge.

You could however, get BÉ route 111 from M3 Parkway at 08:00 arriving at Leeson Street at 08:46, leaving a ~11 minute walk to Harcourt Road.

Alternatively, get a train from M3 Parkway to Navan Road Parkway and get a Dublin Bus 38, 38a, 38b, 39, 39a or 70 to Merrion Row.

I commuted from Virginia to Dublin for a year and if you have the option of driving all the way and can afford it - take it!

As Victor's info above shows adding public transport "options" into the mix would cost you even more hours, and you'd be reliant on each element actually running on time, not being cancelled etc.

It's not something you could do long term IMO.

If the 109 had some services that went from Virginia non stop to Dublin using the M3 the journey could be doable but the current set up where the majority of 109 buses go into Kells abd Navan as well as using the Navan Road rather than the Port tunnel and M3 means the journey is a lot longer than it needs to be.

The 30 does that route but it never sticks to the timetable and a lot if the time in Busarus the driver won't let you on the 30 if the 109 is leaving at the same time.
