Strange how self employed pay more on 36,000 (9500), than either the paye worker (7850) or public servant (6697), and still have such restricted access to welfare supports.

I'd say it's because pensioners have generally worked all their lives and paid tax and probably can't work now....

Not fully sure, but would it that from the PS automatically get both pension contributions and a pension levy deducted from gross before income tax is applied?
