What should a doctor check

Hi all, I am fairly new to running having started only last May, I love it and cant understand why I did start earlier, (I am 36 BTW). Anyway I wish to start training for a marathon (Tralee 2014) but want to make sure everything is ok health wise before I start training.

I am going to the doctor today and and am wondering what happens here. Does he tell me what he is going to check or do I need to ask him to check bloods etc. Can anyone suggest what should be tested. Thanks all.

    Suppose a overall health check,
Problem is, depending on the doctor you speak to they may actually try and put you off running with such nonsense as ypu'll make bits of your knee's
