I have seen a few threads here on the pros and cons of both methods and apart from the better/worse arguments of both methods I would like to know the likely costs of either method.
We have a wall where we are simply moving a door way so I think plastering and then skimming the old doorway will not completely blend in with the original wall. So the solution could be to just skim the entire wall. Prob here is the old walls are painted so will they not need to be stripped first? If so then the cost of skimming would be greater than the cost of just plasterboardinig the entire wall and then tape & jointing it. The bottom line is cost so which do you think works out cheapest? IMHO its plaster boarding it which is around £4 per sheet and about £7 per sheet to put on and joint them. so that is about £4 per Sq Mtr

    Bit of a mouthful there.
Do you want cheap or cheerful?
