Some rougher bits, some fine bits
Great area if you work in the indstrial estates around there. Good supermarkets just up the road in Doughiska.

People worry do much about what a area is like, there is a lot more to be worry about in life, be streetwise and keep a open mind and you will be fine, ive lived in several countries and to be honest the so called rougher parts of town are where you find the most down to earth and no bull**** people.
    Worry less enjoy life more.

Nice friendly area ballybane all working class.

At least there is no gangs of thugs going around terrorizing like some posh parts of the city.

OP, if you gave us some details like what area you'll work in and similar circumstances (school for kids, driving etc) we could help you deicide on a few areas that would work best.

You can also have a read of older threads by doing a search like this
www.google.ie/search?q=moving+to+galway+site:boards.ie and maybe find some info that way.
Note that some threads can be quite old and info in them isn't valid any more.
