miele washing machine not working

Miele W562 about 4.5 years old.
When I turn it on the drain pump comes on and keeps running continuously. After 30 seconds or so the Sump/Pre-wash indicator light starts flashing. Sometimes get the check drain light. The machine does actually drain properly and drum is completely empty of water

I read online that this was the pressure switch fault code. I opened machine and verified that there the pressure vessel and hose are both clean . This leads me to suspect that it is an issue with the pressure switch, which unfortunately is mounted on the main PCB.

Am I right in thinking that the pressure switch is looking for atmospheric pressure to indicate that the drum is empty of water? and therefore disconnecting the far end of the hose should get it past this check? (which it doesn't)

I phoned Miele and they are looking for €120 for service callout, I asked what price the main pcb would be and it comes to €408 with VAT. So if i'm correct I'd be looking at a bill for well over €500. The parts guy in Miele suggested that if I had the engineer out he MAY give me discount on the part.

Although I can't be sure I have the feeling that the PCB will need replaced and at those rates I feel it'd be better to just cut my losses.

With the reputation Miele have, I'm a bit shocked that the machine has developed a non-wear and tear related fault at such an early age and that the cost of service and parts makes it apparently uneconomic.

What do others here think? Is it worth getting the guy service out? Is there any comeback with miele? I know the parts+labour warranty is only 2 years but this is a failure that is certainly nothing to do with wear + tear.

might be worth dropping the sump hose and checking the floating ball is not restricted

Yeah, I took it off and the ball seemed to be moving ok.When the sump pump runs, it throws out all the water and then creates a seal with the ball as I can hear a vaccum slowly releasing when I then turn off the machine.
Do you know is the pressure sensor looking for atmospheric pressure in the chamber before it turns off the sump pump? i.e. if i disconnect the pressure hose completely should it turn off the sump pump?

    Just an update.
I must have missed a trick somewhere along the line. I think I somehow managed to reset the controls and the machine is now working fine.

It was as if the control board was stuck running the drain pump. - I had thought it was waiting for a signal from pressure switch that durm was empty but apparently it was just stuck in some confused state.
Anyway I've now ran it through 2 washes without problems.

I have to say though I'm not very impressed by Miele's attittude. Won't give even basic service information over the phone, insist on a €120 engineer callout before discussing anything. I mean at the end of the day you could buy a fairly decent washing machine for the price of 3 such engineer callouts.
At least if some diagnostics/service information was available before calling out an engineer, you could weigh up whether its worthwhile before chucking €120 at it.

Good to hear you got sorted, might be well worth fitting a good anti surge on the socket
