Instruments as carry on luggage

    Hey Guys

I'm thinking of buying a new trumpet in London in the next few months and I was wondering if I could take it onto a flight home as carry on luggage. A trumpet wouldn't be larger or heavier than a normal bag. I would check any other bag into the hold instead.

Has anyone had experience with this with Ryanair or airlingus?

If it fits into the baggage frame at the gate there's no problem. If not, then you could be charged to place it in the hold, especially by Ryanair. If in doubt, their advice is to buy a seat for the instrument.

There have been a number of threads about this in the past so you might like to search for those in case they can explain it better. Feel free to post again here regardless.

would it be possible to bring it back in a soft case?

I think that would solve your problem as hardcases are generally bulkier regarding trumpets.

Or just op for the cornet! :P
