Is teeth whitening in Northern Ireland any better than in the Republic of Ireland?

I know a few people who have had their teeth whitened in Enniskillen and Belfast and they all said that:

    1) it's more effective because some bleach/ingredient (not sure) is legal there that isn't in the ROI and

    2) that it's much better value for money (more effective and usually cheaper)

Can anyone clarify this? I have to admit that all three of them had the real blinding white result, like nothing I have seen on my mum who has had her's done twice in two different beauty salons.

I had told her in the past to stop wasting her time in beauty salons, that they are not dentists and that she should go to a dentist but now I'm wondering would she better going to a dentist in Enniskillen before she spends anymore money down here.

My feeling on it is that basically your teeth can only be whitened to their original condition but I'm open to correction on this.

I can't deny that celebrities are so forth have incredibly white teeth but they look thousands of pounds worth and not something an ordinary person can expect from a dentist for a couple of hundred euros.

She's better going to a dentist in any country rather than a beauty salon. You're not comparing like with like

EU regulations on bleaching are the same in the ROI and NI. The bleach used is the same with the same effects. Beauty Salon whitening will do nothing except temporary dehydrate your teeth. Price differences are minimal if they exist at all (there are loads of places that do useless whitening for next to nothing everywhere). People who go out of their way to travel to save on dental care greatly over estimate their satisfaction with the results as a means of validating their decisions.

Ok thanks for clearing that up for me. Do you know what the differences are between a beauty salon treatment and a dentist treatment.

Both treatments she had in a beauty salon were like 3 x 20 mins light treatments. They painted her teeth was some fast-acting gel and she had to wear those special glasses and the light itself was just placed right up against her mouth.

On both occasions she was told not to eat or drink anything that had color in it - such as red wine, tea/coffee, tomato sauces etc

I can't really see from dentist websites that I've been looking at for her what the difference is, they all seem to use the light.

Am I missing the main difference?

The difference between the beauty salon and the dentist should be that the dentist uses hydrogen peroxide to lighten teeth whilst the beauty salon should not. If the beauty salon is they are in breach of regulations. The difference between bleaching systems offered by dentists can involve some systems using a light and some not but all will be using bleaching products that fall within the regulations. The price will also vary and generally the deeper the bleaching required the more you will pay.
