I have my NCT on Saturday and the website says to have drivers licence with you, only problem is that I'm currently renewing my drivers licence and have not got it back yet, will this be a problem when showing up for NCT?

    Thanks

Yes in that you MUST have id with you, either drivers licence of passport.

Easiest solution is to bring someone with you who has valid id, and have them present the car, or bring your passport.

I think theyll test the car but just wont release the cert until you present ID. How long they will keep hold of the cert though Im not sure.

^^^^ similar to a visual retest.
They will issue you with a cert as long as you present ID within 28 days.

Take someone with a DL with you and let him/her present it for the test.

With current waiting times for licence, there's a big change OP won't be able to get his licence within 28 days.
If he doesn't hold a passport, he is unable to have his car NCTed on his own!

^^^ what he said. They don't even need to insured on the car. Just drive to the centre and let them deal with the receptionist.
The whole 'bringing ID along' was only introduced to try and catch out the small time private-seller dealers.

will they not take any other form of id?

For some unknown reasons they won't. I tried it, as I was in such situation last year (no licence and no passport) and I was unable to NCT my car. Complete joke.

Just ask the person behind you in the queue, or in front, to present the car.
It's not their problem after that.....

That's exactly what I did to test my car then.

Well I do have a passport so will this suffice on the day? Am I right in saying they wont release the cert until I show licence? Or will they release cert if I just have Passport?

    Yes.
Passport is good enough for them.
