Subscribing in new name - Help needed?

I cancelled my subscription (due to expire later this month) - was paying €92 for Sports , HD and multiroom. Just wasn't getting the value out of it -especially with BT Sport getting ESPN, so decided to cancel - got offered €16 pm reduction when cancelling but didn't accept.
The plan was to get a couple of combi boxes but on reflection and given the family viewing pattern decided to keep Sky in one room and use another box as FTA box.
I haven't contacted sky yet (was putting it off as I was kinda hoping for a better offer!!). Anyways, I'm now thinking of just letting the contract run out and sign up in the wife's name - get a free new HD box and pay them €50 a month (ent + HD).
Anyone know what checks they have in place - Address, Direct Debit details, landline number that would prevent the safe passage of a new order.

    Thanks.
    Atticus.

Sky have new security systems in place now and they check everything, same bank account or phone line will bounce it straight away...new name new bank account and different phoneline would be the only sure way of getting it through....you should note that all new sky boxes have no rf out so if you run magic eyes off your boxes at present you will require to purchase additional equipment to enable you to continue using magic eyes.

Not to mention the fact that you are suggesting committing fraud!

Nothing fraudulant about cancelling a service and have another family member subscribe. It happens every day in all walks of life, perfectly legally.

agreed, not fraud, just your wife opening a SKY account in her own name abd you closing yours, plus SKY get a 12 month contract vs a 1 month rolling contract which will suit them down to the ground.

Btw if she subscribes online you don't need to take the HD pack to get the regular box, it's free with or without the HD sub.

You again....whenever somebody here suggests cancelling a sky sub, and starting a fresh contract with a different subscriber (same household), you jump in and cry fraud...
Are you really sure you don't work for Sky ?????

I assure you I don't work for Sky.

The Sky offer, free box, free install etc is a once only offer to attract new subscribers. It is not intended to be repeated by different members of the household. Nor for that matter is it intended that a replacement box is supplied free of charge when the first one dies.

The very fact that the OP asks what checks Sky makes implies he knows what he is suggesting is fraudulent.

Maybe, just maybe, he is concerned that it may be contrary to Sky's policies.
This does not (sorry, not) mean that he is commiting fraud of any kind.

As somebody else would be signing a new contract with Sky then they would be entitled to whatever Sky are offering new subscribers.
As the OP is probably not cloned this would indicate that the new subscriber is not the OP and is therefore fully entitled to sign a new contract with Sky.

We can put this argument to bed handy enough by referring to Sky's T&C's.....
Free Sky+ box offer: Sky+ box free with free standard set-up for new customers joining Sky TV online. One free box per household. This is a new customer offer. Minimum 12 month term applies. Non-standard set-up may cost extra.

    Patience, Grasshopper!

They'll more than likely be in touch to offer something better, lots of reports on the various threads.

Thanks for the replies guys - Think I will hold out for a better offer. Incidentally, fraud or not, it was the Sky care agent in Cork who first brought up the possibility of re-subbing in my wife's name - so I guess they would rather some money rather than none.
