Damp in One Part of House

    Hi All....

We've just bought a house and there's internal damp in one part of it, on the floor around a bay window.

The floor boards look pretty mouldy and damp spots up the wall. The house is 1950's with a floating floor (around a 2ft drop underneath).

I want to get someone in to tell me the issue so that I can have it repaired. I have numerous builders coming in to quote various jobs (which this will be one) but I'd like an expert to tell me what the problem could be.

Who would be the best person to call to have a look? Building engineer?

An experienced building surveyor or engineer.

Damp (i.e. moisture) in houses is unfortunately quite common but can be readily solved with a proper understanding of what's happening.

If there are similar/same houses around you then you might ask around to see if it is a common problem. Also, it sounds like you have suspended timber floors. If so, check that the underfloor space is adequately ventilated (are there vents front and back? are they unobstructed).
