I know it's not up to the minute news, but not everyone may know:

    Nice!

Any of you that play World of tanks, and/or War thunder, will be excited to hear that War thunder is introducing tanks into their game. Not as a separate game, but incorporated. Unlike what wargames did with World of tanks/warplanes

I'm only a n00b to these games, and play very badly, but still think they're fun. I'm veering more toward War thunder as I find World of tanks a lot more unforgiving, and not sure I am committed enough to advance through the lower tiers.

There is of course that elitist element to these games. Players who treat it more as a historical lesson or virtual model plane/tank collection. And they don't like us n00bs coming in wanting to just have fun :D

But War thunder in Arcade mode, introducing tanks! should be a 'Blast!' - pun, very much intended

    Anyone play these games?

Yeah i do, i prefer WT to WorldofWarPlanes too, collision detection although people whinge and moan ingame when you get rammed is a whole lot better than in wowp, the planes just seem to handle better in warthunder too, and overall i just like WT better.

World of tanks though, totally different kettle of fish

I really like World of tanks, I just suck really bad at it. No matter what tactics I employ, I get done in - or I survive with no kills :(

War thunder is like that, in the air, on speed! :D I've only started, and don't have any fancy planes yet, but it is fun, even when you're getting rammed out of the sky - probably because it looks so good, and you're getting a bit more of an adrenaline rush than you would in WOT. I'm interested to see how the tank implementation goes.

Any quick tips for either game?

depends on what nation you're flying, but generally with the British line of planes, i find that you can rack up loads of kills in spitfires if you climb to around 4/5000 feet, and hit and run attacks on slower planes in a dive, even if you cripple them and head for the clouds again you usually get a crapload of XP and minimise your damage taken. If you do it right you'll be hurtling toward the enemy planes in excess of 5/600kph, so timing and angle are crucial, plus you'll need to be very selective about your targets, if they see you diving, abort. If not, open it up with full war power and fire everything when the range hits 50, climb back out and repeat.

Another one i use is just to follow a bomber and escort him to wherever he's going, they will be attacked. But most attackers will focus on the bomber rather than the escort, sometimes ye get an easy kill and the bomber pilot will love ye :)

I'm not great either, but those two usually rack up a few kills for me if i've been having a crap day, feels awesome too. Oh, stealth bullets too, try not to use tracers if you're going to do either of those.

Good stuff, I'll have a bash at those tips next session. Played a bit today and just got repeatedly rammed out of the sky.

I always try think of things in a Rock, Paper, Scissors way at least at lower levels of planes (especially til cannons become widely available)

So Fighter beat Heavy fighter - can easily out-turn them and pick them off, just never ever go head on as their cannon will chew you up. However until you get cannon equipped fighters (Spitfire MK2B for example) try ignore heavy bombers. The H8KS, PBY take too long to bring down alone and their gunners can hurt you.

Heavy Fighter beats Bombers - Heavy Fighters (ME110, Beaufighter) get cannons much earlier than other fighter and can take the damage that turrets dish out while chewing up bombers. Great for hit and run attacks on others too but as soon as you get into a turning battle, you'll lose speed and just get cut apart.

Bombers win the games and beat fighters - For the most part the battles are won by destroying ground targets so you'll need a bomber, and on early tiers (up to about level 3) you can get easy kills as newer players in Gladiators etc fly straight behind you with weak machine guns not really hurting you as you pick them off with your turrets. Especially with the big PBY, H8Ks lads. At higher tiers though against more experienced, better armed opponents you'll have more trouble.

Degrassinoel's advice above is perfect for in game tactics.

Other little bit of advice, try to get a good idea of what each type of plane is called. If you're into WW2 at all some are well known and obvious - Spitfire, Me109 etc but the Russian and Japanese planes can get a bit confusing, so that you can find yourself tracking a LaGG 3 expecting a bomber because you mixed it up with an AR-2, or asking yourself wether a Ki43, Ki45 or Ki61 is the one with cannons
