Pretty impressive average speed of close enough to 100km/h

From one end of Australia to the other

    World Solar Challenge

(note: a significant limitation is that the cars were only driving from 8AM - 5PM, so a simple sum would indicate that the 33 hours it took, was actually more like 4 days...)

P.S. I dedicate this thread to Mad Lad c.s. :p

Not a bad amount of energy gathered from a relatively small amount of surface area. They should be part-powering their homes out there with it!

Solar energy is a good Idea btu sadly in Ireland it's cloudy 75% of the year.

In Germany her parents have 13 kwp on the roof and it can generate over 70 kwh in a day, that's enough for 250-270 real miles in a full electric car. In Ireland we get about 45 mins of extra daylight which would generate more on a sunny day at the height of summer, in winter we would have about 45 mins less sunlight on a sunny day.

On a typical cloudy Irish style day it could generate only 10 kwh, or less and that's from a 13 kwp system.

For Ireland a hybrid system of wind and solar would be better.

As solar power gets cheaper in the years to come 13 kwp will still make a difference if you got the roof space and it could contribute to your ev charging or running storage heating etc.

EV's in the future will store that energy and/or sell it to the grid or the grid will take it which becomes your big battery and you buy it back at cheap rate for your ev at night.

However currently as it stands now the cost to drive on electricity is so cheap on night rate that it would still take years for a pay back, but after that though your bills would be a lot cheaper.

On the other side of the scale, that Electric Racing team in TU/Delft recently broke the world record for 0-100km/h in an electric car.

    2.15 seconds

Thats quicker than an Ariel Atom V8.

I made a mistake her parents generate 70 kWh on a good sunny day in summer which is enough for around 250-270 ev miles, not 100, I just re read the my post. I was in a rush this morning.
