Taxing car, question

I recently got a runabout and it was out of tax for just over a month before I bought it - do I have to pay for that month?

I was going through the online process of taxing it (didn't get to complete it as I didn't have insurance details at hand) and it is showing the car as being out of tax but no mention of the changeover date.

You're only liable from when the car was put in your name.
For your sake I hope you signed the log in October, because if you signed it in September your liable for the full month of September.

Didn't think you could tax it online until it is in your name.

Yes but if the car is still in the previous owners name then the new disc will be posted to their address.

Yeah, online pin retrieval takes a couple of seconds!

The tax is out since the start of august, I bought it halfway through september. When I taxed it online today, they back-dated september at the cost of €38 and just started my 3 months tax until January. I thought it would just have started from september and finished up at the end of november.
