    why did they only half hardheartedly support the referendum? lack of money? not wanting to be on the losing side? or couldnt agree among themselves?

    They will need it to survive after the next election.

    That and they couldn't afford to mound a big campaign, and it was FG's idea anyway that they never really endorsed at party level.
